Ticketed Event

Even before it officially opened for play in 1993, the Koolau Golf Course gained a reputation as one of the most exacting layouts in the state. This incredible challenge ranks among America’s toughest golf courses. Created by architect Dick Nugent and design consultant Jack Tuthill, Koolau is set amidst lush vegetation at the foot of the Koolau mountains on the windward side of the Pali tunnel. As you continue throughout the course, deep ravines come into play, requiring long carries off the tee.

Requiring a booming tee shot over a wide ravine, then a well-placed fairway shot over another gaping ravine, finally ending on a green guarded by large sand bunkers, the par-4, 476-yard (gold tees), 18th hole, is one of the most challenging holes in the state. There is very little margin for error anywhere on this beautiful course.
